5 Pairs of Stylish and Practical Work Shoes

Five pairs of stylish practical work shoes

Last year I bought a wonderful pair of mid-heeled court shoes – or pumps, if you’d rather – and have practically worn them to death.  They look fantastic, are superbly comfortable and really do go with everything, but now I’m faced with the task of replacing them and it looks like it’s going to be hard work.  Still, there’s lots of choice out there and so I thought I’d share my findings so far in case it helps you too.

First up is Dorothy’s Friend from Office (£62, pictured above).  My current pair are this style but in pewter coloured leather and they’re an absolute dream, so I am tempted to just replace them with this delightful red.  The only thing that’s stopping me is the thin heel.  They wear down so quickly, even when you only walk short distances, that you have to put aside extra cash for repairs.

Another fantastic option are Carvella’s Angie courts (£59), which are available in a variety of lovely colours.  These are pretty much perfect for me, but I’m still unsure about suede.  If any of you know of a brilliant suede protector that’d shield these babies from the rain, do let me know!

If you fancy a pointier toe, Dune’s Joscars court shoes (£70) are a lovely classic shape, but without the super-high heel that could be too much if you’re on your feet a lot at work.  There are three colours too – two of which are extremely shiny.  This can only be a good thing.

A way to make a higher heel a little bit more practical is to include a platform, which these John Lewis Ionia court shoes do well.  It’s another classic style that will see you through until they fall apart, rather than until they fall out of fashion.

Finally, I’ve decided to include a pair from the brand we all got our school shoes from as a child in the UK.  Clarks Damson Jam (£44.99) may not have the wow factor of the other pairs, but they’re a lovely classic shape and I’m pretty sure they’ll be comfortable.  They’re also quite a bargain.
