Ride the wave
With that special New Year’s party fast approaching you will want to look your best for the last day of 2010! One way to turn heads at the annual New Year’s eve party is to create a show stopping hairstyle. The forties hairstyle is one such style that boasts both glamour and elegance.
In order to create the cascading forties wave you will need to invest in a good styling tool, such as a pair of the infamous straighteners from ghd. Begin working the ghds through your locks, wrapping each individual strand around the irons in order to create a series of tight curls. Work through the whole head of hair section by section, wrapping each individual piece around the ghd hair straightener and holding in position for just a few seconds. A good tip is to pin up each finished curl up as you go, this will allow each section to cool.
Step two requires you to remove the pins from your locks after each section has fully cooled. Starting at the bottom, using a bristle brush the hair out in order to achieve a gentle wave instead of a tight ringlet.
Finally, smooth one side of the hair to your head and, using either a hair gel or a mousse formula, slick back the hair and gently pin to the nape of the neck. Finish the look by teasing your new curls into polished waves and add a spritz of hairspray in order to hold your new style in place.
This style has been seen predominantly on the autumn and winter catwalks and pays ode to one of this year much-loved top TV shows, Mad Men.
This particular style was also very popular with the iconic A-list celebrities, such as Katherine Hepburn and Lauren Bacall. Both starlets oozed Hollywood glamour and by following the above simple styling tips, now you can too! Add a statement red lip shade in order to finish the look; you will be the belle of the ball!
